A note from our CEO, Brent Wilson, on the newly released book 'Energy Mavericks' by Claudia Molina

If you’re an energy consumer, professional or student, I highly recommend reading the newly released book Energy Mavericks by Claudia Molina.

The procurement of energy can have both positive and negative impacts. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us all to continually learn about and responsibly pursue safe, smart and affordable forms of energy, as well as the sourcing of raw energy materials.

Drawing from her highly successful engineering career, astute observations while traveling abroad, and multiple interviews with energy leaders, Claudia shares insights into several of the energy sector’s innovative breakthroughs and environmental impact lessons over the past couple of decades.

Energy Mavericks builds upon previous best-selling publications by notable journalists about the oil and gas industry, such as The Frackers, and the mining industry, such as The War Below. Each of these books describe the challenges associated with the ethical pursuit of energy resources and the environmental issues caused by the production of waste material.

While these can be challenging problems, Claudia showcases numerous examples of innovative “Energy Mavericks” who repurpose waste streams and technical skills to source energy materials from preexisting mines and oilfields, leading to lower environmental impacts and reduced carbon emissions, some of which can even be reversed.

In her book, Claudia defines maverick thinking as “the marriage of integrity and ingenuity, challenging conventional wisdom to innovate for the greater good.” (p.216) I am honored to be mentioned among the industry leaders working within this framework and truly appreciate Claudia for sharing the story of Galvanic Energy (chapter 16 – “The Maverick’s Compass”).
